Eric graduated from the National University of Singapore and was awarded the Degree of Bachelor Of Laws, Second Class Honours (Lower Division) on 10 June 1992. Upon completing his pupilage, Eric was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore on 14 April 1993.
Eric practiced as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore from April 1993 to January 1998. During this time, Eric practiced civil litigation, concentrating on commercial litigation.
Returning to Malaysia in January 1998, after completing his pupilage, Eric was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 19 December 1998.
Eric continued with his practice as a commercial litigator in Kuala Lumpur, in April 1999 and continued until July 2006.
Eric joined M/s Zailan & Co. in April 1999 and practiced with them until May 2000.
Eric joined M/s Lee, Ong & Kandiah, Kuala Lumpur in June 2000 and continued his practice with this firm until July 2006, having been made a partner on 1 January 2004.
Having been admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam on 22 July 2006, Eric ceased his practice in Kuala Lumpur and commenced practice in Brunei Darussalam in September 2006 and has remained in practice in Brunei Darussalam since then. Eric continues to practice civil litigation, with an emphasis on commercial litigation.
During his practice, Eric has conducted trials before all levels of the Subordinate Courts and the High Courts in Singapore, Malaysia and now Brunei Darussalam. In addition, Eric has also had conduct of numerous appeals to the Courts of Appeal in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
Jonathan graduated from the University of Hull and was awarded the Degree of Bachelor of Laws, Second Class (Division Two) on 11 July 2011. He was called to the UK Bar, Inner Temple, on 24 November 2011 after being awarded the Bar Professional Training Course (Very Competent) at Nottingham Trent University.
He has been in active practice since he was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam on 11 October 2012.
Jonathan joined Cheok Advocates and Solicitors in 2012, where he practiced civil litigation (commercial and banking), criminal litigation, corporate advisory, intellectual property law, and employment and immigration law until 2017. He now continues his practice at J Cheok Eric.
During his practice, Jonathan has appeared before the Subordinate Court, the Intermediate Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal in Brunei Darussalam.
